How To Unlock Pit Of Heresy And Access The Dungeon
Unlocking the Pit of Heresy dungeon in Destiny 2 allows players to venture deep beneath the Moon's surface to face formidable Hive challenges and acquire unique endgame gear. Unlike some endgame activities that are instantly available, accessing this dungeon requires completing specific prerequisites tied to the Shadowkeep expansion campaign. By following the proper questline, players can permanently open the activity node on their map for future runs.
Starting the Deepening Wake Quest
To begin your journey toward the dungeon, you must first finish the main Shadowkeep story campaign on the Moon. Once the campaign is complete, visit Eris Morn at Sanctuary to pick up the prerequisite quest known as The Deepening Wake. This quest acts as the official entry requirement before the dungeon activity node reveals itself in your Director.
Completing the Altars of Sorrow Objectives
The Deepening Wake quest sends players to Sorrow's Harbor to participate in the Altars of Sorrow public event. During this event, you must open a chest by reaching at least Tier 3 of the activity. Additionally, players must defeat 20 Nightmares within the event area to fulfill the quest conditions.
Unlocking and Launching the Dungeon
After satisfying both event requirements, head back to Sanctuary and speak with Eris Morn once more. Turning in the completed quest step officially unlocks the activity, placing the icon directly in the Moon's destination map. From this point forward, you and your fireteam can launch into the Pit of Heresy whenever you want to pursue high-stat armor and powerful weapons.
Preparing for the Descent Into the Pit
Before launching the activity, ensure your fireteam has appropriate loadouts equipped for close-quarters encounters and boss damage phases. The dungeon features complex encounters requiring relic sword mechanics, orb duping or dunking, and careful survival strategies.
